Tempting though it may be with time at a premium, don’t bypass the terms and conditions including any alerts such as warning triangles on a website that can be clicked when you are taking out a policy. They may lead you to crucial relevant information.
Accurately describe the material the home is built with. For example, a thatched roof.
Comply with the security demands of the policy. These may include an accredited alarm system and locks on doors and windows.
See that the safety features demanded such as smoke detectors are in place.
Don’t leave the property empty for longer than the policy stipulates.
Keep the home well maintained so that, in the event of a claim, the insurer cannot assert any damage is down to wear and tear.
Declare earlier claims or those still being processed. Insurers can refer to databases to check such things out.
Similarly answer any question about having had insurance refused truthfully.
Specify any valuables worth more than the level set by the policy for individual items and don’t undervalue them.
